The Steam Deck turned the portable gaming PC into an everyday object. For it to stay pleasant to live with, you need to set it down properly, protect it, sometimes extend its ports, adjust how it sits in your hands. The market of official and third-party accessories covers part of that need, but leaves a lot of specific cases stranded. A stand dimensioned exactly to the depth of your desktop and the angle you like, a cover that accounts for the exact version of your console, a wall mount placed at the screen height you wanted: none of that is on a shelf, or it exists in a single version that never quite matches.

The other reason is economic. Many off-the-shelf Steam Deck accessories sell at prices unrelated to their real complexity. A simple injection-molded stand is expensive because it's produced in a small branded run, imported and repackaged. Stands and mounts: setting the console down without straining it

The Steam Deck weighs nearly 700 grams. Laid flat, it takes up space, its sticks rub against the surface, and it runs hotter because the rear vents sit against the desk. A properly dimensioned stand fixes all three at once.

Vent covers and carrying protection

For transport, two complementary pieces make sense: a rigid cover that protects the screen without weighing as much as a hard case, and a printed mesh vent flap that keeps dust and crumbs out of the fan while the console is stowed in a bag.

Adjusting the grip: grips and inserts

The Steam Deck was designed for fairly large hands. For everyone else, or for long sessions, adjusting the grip changes everything.

3D printed grips typically clip onto the console's handles, adding half a centimeter of material to reduce thumb fatigue. You can choose the material to target a rubbery feel, a more rigid matte-plastic feel, or a wood effect with a fiber-filled PLA. The precision of modern FDM printing gives a clean fit without the grip shifting mid-game.

On the insert side, the rear buttons can be enlarged or moved depending on the size of your hand and the natural position of your middle fingers. A 3D file also lets you quickly prototype several shapes before keeping the one that suits you best.

PLA remains the standard material for most visible pieces. Its softening temperature around 55 to 60 °C is enough for indoor use. PETG takes over as soon as there's heat, mechanical stress or possible moisture. Technical resin is reserved for very small pieces with fine detail, for example a precise button insert or a custom connector.
