Step 1: the 3D file, your starting point
A 3D file is a digital file describing the exact shape of your object, which the machine can read to make it. The accepted formats are STL, OBJ and 3MF, the three industry standards. You can send the file directly, or simply pass on a link to a model published online.
Where do you find that file? Three scenarios:
- You already have it: a model downloaded from a sharing platform, or a file you designed yourself. Send it as is.
- You found a model online: pass on the link, the workshop retrieves the file and checks it's printable.
- You have nothing at all: a photo, a sketch or some measurements can be enough to start. The workshop helps you turn your need into a printable file.
One important point: you remain responsible for the rights on the files you send. A licensed model can't be printed without its author's permission. Always check the model's terms of use before sending it.
Step 2: the quote, free and within 24 hours
Once your file or your request is sent through the quote form, you get an answer within 24 hours, with no obligation. The quote details what makes up the price:
- Material: PLA, the most common material for decorative work, starts at €22 per kilo. A typical part uses only a fraction of that.
- Machine time: billed at €7 an hour, it depends on the size and complexity of the part.
- Any finishing: sanding, painting, varnish, if you want them.
To give you an order of magnitude: a small part starts around €15, a medium part sits between €40 and €50, and a large technical part can reach €120 and more. Nothing is billed until you've accepted the quote.
On confidentiality, your files are never shared or reused without your agreement. That holds for a prototype as much as for a personal object.
Step 3: choosing the material and finishes
On-demand printing at PrintWonders relies on FDM technology (fused filament deposition: the machine builds the object layer by layer from a melted plastic filament). Four materials are offered, each with its specialty:

A raw printed piece shows fine layer lines, the visual signature of FDM. For a more refined result, several finishes are possible: sanding and primer (an undercoat that smooths the surface before painting), hand painting, matte, satin or gloss varnish, and even simple assembly with magnets, screws or inserts if your model provides for them.
Step 4: production, delivery or workshop collection
As soon as you accept the quote and pay for the order, the piece enters production within 12 hours (Monday to Friday, 9am to 7pm). Then count 3 to 5 working days of manufacturing, depending on the complexity of the piece and the workshop's load.
